School Hours for 2017-2018

April 28, 2017

Dear Paradise Schools Families,

It is an exciting time in the Paradise Schools’ history as the 2017-18 school year will mark the opening of our third and final campus, the much anticipated Paradise Honors Middle School. This campus completion, along with additional improvements at all of our schools, will make Paradise Schools a uniquely comprehensive K-12 charter system.

As with any expansion, there are often bumps along the way. Just like we experienced with the completion of Paradise Honors High School in 2011, the new middle school is also going through some growing pains. Due to extensive building permit delays, our initial construction began much later than intended. Despite our construction crew’s diligent efforts, there appears to be no way to make up enough of the precious time which was lost. The middle school building will not be complete until the start of the second quarter of the school year.

The Paradise Schools’ Leadership Team has thoroughly investigated a number of different solutions which included delayed calendars, evening school sessions, alternate locations, and temporary buildings. Our foremost concern was to offer a solution that would have the least amount of negative impact on our students and families while maintaining academic excellence. To ensure these results, the best solution is to divide our middle school by grade levels and house students on the PEC and PHHS campus for the first quarter.

Even with the delay to the middle school construction, all schools in the Paradise Schools’ system will start as scheduled August 7th. All 6th and 7th grade students will be attending classes at the very familiar PEC campus, while the 8th grade students will take advantage of one of our newly constructed buildings on the PHHS campus. We are currently finalizing the details. After the completion of this school year, informational meetings will be offered for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade parents. The date and time for these informational meetings will be shared soon. To ensure we provide answers to your questions, please complete the following survey:  https://goo.gl/forms/gOpXy4RhYfkFaDyD2

This is an exciting time for all of us. On behalf of Paradise Schools, I want to thank you for being a valued member of our school community and also for your patience and understanding as we continue to grow. We look forward to our new facilities and a fantastic school year.

Best Regards,

Tim Gonzales

We plan to enact these changes starting on Wednesday, August 17.  We thank you in advance for your continued cooperation and patience during these times.
Important Fee Information for the 2016-2017 School Year

Activity fees are paid each year to provide field trips, special assemblies, and various supplies. Several payment plans are available including scholarships. The fees must be paid to participate in the activities. Students not paying for activities will be provided a related alternative learning experience if the activity takes place during the instructional day.  The Extra-Curricular Activities fee is $100.

Lab and Usage fees are necessary to move students above and beyond the standards.  Paradise Honors High School covers the cost of these fees, but lab and usage fees are necessary in order to provide your child with access to materials that allow the best learning experiences possible.  All science classes, including but not limited to, biology (all sections including marine), chemistry (all sections), anatomy and physiology, physics, genetics, and environmental and integrated science (all sections) will carry a $20 lab fee made payable to Paradise Honors High School.  Art fees are also assessed as follows:  Art I - $35, Art II - $50, Art III - $50.  These fees are due by Thursday, September 1, 2016.  Uniforms for PE will also incur a cost of $22 for a set of two t-shirts and two pairs of shorts.

Athletic Fee - For the 2016-2017 school year, the athletic fee is set as $150.00 per student per season (football and cheer have additional expenses).   This is the "Athletic Fee” and is separate from the "$100 Extra-Curricular Activity Fee” and/or "Lab and Usage fees”.

Arizona School Tax Credit

All extra-curricular activity fees are eligible to be applied toward your Arizona School Tax Credit for the calendar year in which they are paid. Arizona citizens filing Arizona income tax returns may claim an Arizona School Tax Credit up to $400 for joint filing and $200 for a single filing. Parents are reminded to keep the receipt issued at the time they pay fees. This receipt is proof that you have paid fees for Extra-curricular activities that you may apply toward your Arizona School Tax Credit when you file your Arizona income tax return. As a service to those families choosing to pay the annual fee, they will receive a letter of appreciation in January acknowledging the amount of fees they have paid between the beginning of school and the end of December that may be applied toward their Arizona School Tax Credit.

Thank you for your continued support!

Status Verification for Reduced Fees for Sports--Important!!

This year we will be implementing a new Status Verification process for determining your student’s potential scholarship discount for various fees such as activity fees, field trip fees, and athletic fees.
To remain in compliance with the United States Department of Agriculture Federal Guidelines this process will need to be completed separate from the National School Lunch Program eligibility forms.
Please read the form carefully and be sure to provide the requested documentation.  Click Here for Status Verification Form
You may also see your child’s school office to obtain the Status Verification Form.

Truancy Program
To encourage and improve school attendance, Paradise Schools has implemented a truancy program in partnership with Maricopa County Juvenile Court. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact PHHS at 623-455-7401 Click here for program details.
In order for you student's absence or tardy to be considered excused, please obtain a doctor's/dentist's note or court document.  Click here to review the attendance, tardy and sweep policy taken from the 2016-2017 handbook.

Student Parking:

Due to the limited amount of parking on campus, it is imperative for all of us to park in the assigned areas as designated by the parking map.  The RED spots are for teachers and the BLUE are for students.

Failure to comply with parking in the designated spots will result in a Violation Sticker issued.  If the violation is repeated, a loss of parking privileges without a refund will be enacted.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Important Info about community Service Hours

Please carefully read the following excerpt taken from the Student Handbook regarding Community Service.  Please pay specific attention to the information found under the "Procedures" section and relating to Academic Probation. Outstanding hours may be submitted to the Counseling Office Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 am - 3:00 pm.

Excerpt from Student Handbook
In addition to completion of 24 credits of course work, students are required to complete 20 hours of community service with a charitable organization each school year in order to graduate from Paradise Honors High School.  These hours must be completed before returning to school of the particular year.  For example a ninth grade student must have his/her hours completed before attending the first day of school his/her sophomore year.

Students must obtain a letter from the charitable organization having the company letterhead that indicates the student’s name, the dates and times, and the total hours that the student served.  In addition, the letter should contain the non-profit tax identification number of the organization when applicable.

The Counseling Office will keep a running total of the community service hours for each student.  It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that the 20 hours are met each year.  They may inquire with the Counseling Office to see how many hours are remaining if they have not kept their own records.
