Upcoming Parent Informational Meetings:

Paradise Honors Middle School will hold an informational meeting for all incoming returning and new students on July 12, 2017. We will run three sessions at 8:00 AM, 2:00 PM, and 6:00 PM. We will hold these meeting at the PHHS campus in the cafeteria. We hope to see you there!

Dear Paradise Schools Families,

It is an exciting time in the Paradise Schools’ history as the 2017-18 school year will mark the opening of our third and final campus, the much anticipated Paradise Honors Middle School. This campus completion, along with additional improvements at all of our schools, will make Paradise Schools a uniquely comprehensive K-12 charter system.

As with any expansion, there are often bumps along the way. Just like we experienced with the completion of Paradise Honors High School in 2011, the new middle school is also going through some growing pains. Due to extensive building permit delays, our initial construction began much later than intended. Despite our construction crew’s diligent efforts, there appears to be no way to make up enough of the precious time which was lost. The middle school building will not be complete until the start of the second quarter of the school year.

The Paradise Schools’ Leadership Team has thoroughly investigated a number of different solutions which included delayed calendars, evening school sessions, alternate locations, and temporary buildings. Our foremost concern was to offer a solution that would have the least amount of negative impact on our students and families while maintaining academic excellence. To ensure these results, the best solution is to divide our middle school by grade levels and house students on the PEC and PHHS campus for the first quarter. 

Even with the delay to the middle school construction, all schools in the Paradise Schools’ system will start as scheduled August 7th. All 6th and 7th grade students will be attending classes at the very familiar PEC campus, while the 8th grade students will take advantage of one of our newly constructed buildings on the PHHS campus. We are currently finalizing the details. After the completion of this school year, informational meetings will be offered for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade parents. Eighth Grade Events - 2017
  • March 24th: Collage Pictures Due (one picture: newborn-2 years of age)
  • March 31st: Promotion Pictures at PEC (Individual Cap & Gown and Formal Group Class Picture)
  • May 12th: Due date for Culminating Field Trip to California ($375 ea)
  • May 18th-20th: Leadership Quest Culminating Field Trip to California
  • May 22nd: Dance & Dinner, 5:30-7:30PM in MPR
  • May 22nd-23rd: Promotion practice 9AM-12PM
  • May 23rd: Dessert Social & Yearbook signing from 1:20-2:50PM in the Cafeteria
  • May 23rd: All students fees and fines must be paid in full. Last day of school for 8th graders.
  • May 24th: Promotion Ceremony 4-6:00PM at Radiant Church. Please Note: Each student will be provided access to an equal amount of 6 tickets to give friends and family. Ticket request forms will go home on May 1st and due back May 12th.
 
Dear 8th-grade parents, 

Here are a few important need to knows and reminders:
  • All 8th-grade students will wear promotion t-shirt provided as a gift from PEC Student Council on Tuesday, May 23rd. 8th-grade students may wear appropriate out of uniform bottoms. A dollar is not required to participate  (for 8th grade only) but appreciated as a fundraiser for our student body. 
  • 8th-grade student's last instructional day is Tuesday, May 23rd.  They will not report to school again until 3:15 PM on May 24th
  • Tickets for promotion go home with your child today, May 22nd. Each attendee must have a ticket. Radiant has graciously provided their facility for our special event. Due to space, we only have a specific amount of seats available.  If every student and their loved ones use the 6 tickets provided, we will be at maximum capacity. 
  • Unticketed children under 3 may sit in parent/guardian's lap.
  • Students will report to their homeroom on PEC campus on Wednesday, May 24th at 3:15 PM. Please enter through the front office or open gates. 
  • The promotion ceremony will be held at Radiant Church. Doors will open at 3:30 PM. The ceremony will begin at 4:00 PM
  • CDs of the slide show are available for $5 after the ceremony.
  • Please do not bring balloons into Radiant because of the disruption to views for all. 
  • Fines or negative balances must be paid to receive promotion certificates and awards. Notices have been sent home numerous times in the last few weeks. If you have a fine or negative balance, your promotion certificates and awards for your child will be available for pick up from Mrs. Duzy after the ceremony. 
  • If you are current on all balances, your child's promotion certificate, awards, and a copy of the program will be picked up from your child homeroom teacher after the ceremony. All homeroom teachers will be set up at tables outside the sanctuary. 
  • Lifetouch will be taking photos that can be purchased online. 
  • Students MUST wear dress shoes. Students in sneakers will not be permitted to walk in the ceremony. Please see Mrs. Duzy if you need dress shoes. 
  • Please remember that bottoms MUST BE NO greater than 4 inches above the knee. Keep in mind that the stage is higher than the audience. 
  • Tops and dresses may NOT be strapless or spaghetti strap. Students may wear a wrap to cover. The wrap must stay on for the entire ceremony. 
  • Tops or dresses may not show midriff and they must cover cleavage. 
  • School uniform is always appropriate dress for the ceremony.
  • Due to Paradise Schools' policy on visitors and volunteers, our 8th- graders cannot visit classrooms, teachers, or be on campus during regular school hours after their last instructional day of school (May 23rd). They are always welcome to visit us outside of school hours.

Bring Your Own Device and GO Guardian:
Dear Parents & Guardians,

We wanted to take this opportunity to announce that PECMS is piloting a new software program called Go Guardian. This program enhances many of our current safety features and reflects some of the current challenges schools face to ensure student safety online.  Due to this pilot, teachers will no longer be able to ask students to bring their devices under our BYOD guidelines. 

As stated in our handbook, students are expected to keep their person devices (ex- phones, iPads, tablets, laptops) in their backpacks and turned off for the entire school day.  Please help us reinforce this expectation with your child and support our staff.  It is our goal that technology should enhance student learning, not distract students from their learning. Once our pilot is complete, we will share this experience across our K-12 school community. We thank you for your continued support.

We are enjoying an exciting 2015-2016 School Year.
As a reminder, the control of communicable disease during the school year is a difficult problem. Please consider keeping your child at home if he/she is exhibiting several of the following symptoms.

Restlessness during the night                       Nausea/vomiting/diarrhea

Fever                                                            Red, watery eyes

Runny nose/discolored nasal drainage         Flushed face

Sneezing and coughing                                 Headache 

Sore throat                                                     Swelling of face/glands

Rash

 

Please keep your child at home for 24 hours following a fever, vomiting, or diarrhea. If you have any questions regarding the symptoms mentioned, please call your doctor.
